The Board of Directors of AMDE is excited to announce our 2014-2015 season. This season will continue with the same abundant excellence that is our standard, and will provide more artists more opportunities. Under the continued leadership of Melanie S. Kregel the company strives always to live out our vision of changing the shape of dance one dancer at a time.
Back by popular demand, this season will begin with an original ballet based on the timeless classic, The Nutcracker. The Nutcracker: Suite Dreams debuted in 2013 and will be returned to the stage onDecember 5-7 at the George W. Carver Museum Theater. Come see what has made this ballet a family favorite, but with a new twist on the story. Clara will travel through a second dream before returning to reality, and along the way will meet new characters that will dance their way into your hearts. Keeping in the spirit of AMDE tradition, the audience will enjoy many genres of dance as they make their way through these dreamscapes. Featuring the masterfully trained artists of AMDE and AMDE II, The Nutcracker: Suite Dreams is a must-see for the entire family.
In the spring, AMDE in conjunction with Metamorphosis Dance Academy will present Cinderella. Set to the beautiful music of Sergei Prokofiev, see this familiar tale told through a fresh perspective. Performances will be held on April 25 at the George W. Carver Museum Theater.
Our season will come to its finale on May 29-30 as we present our annual event Ballet Under the Stars at the Zilker Hillside Theater. Beginning just before sundown, this Austin tradition is fun for the whole family and a great way to kick off your summer. The performance will feature a variety of choreographers including some emerging talent in the dance world.
To share our vision with the community, we have a number of opportunities throughout the season. Last season we had the privilege to perform for the dance students of RRISD and answer questions they may have about the study and performance of dance. We hope to continue this partnership and provide master classes in area schools. Our dancers will also be attending the Bailando Dance Festival in Corpus Christi where they will perform and enjoy classes. Our own Melanie Kregel and Melissa Glouchkova will be serving as master teachers at the festival as well. Finally, our student artists will get the opportunity to create their own choreography for a third year and present at our annual Young Choreographers Showcase held at the George W. Carver Museum Theater.
We are very grateful for the fans and supporters we have inspired over the years. Whether you are a member of our company or an observer, we aspire to change your lives for the better. AMDE is part of a legacy in dance created by several companies, directors, teachers, and choreographers that span generations. We are committed to continuing this legacy through masterful instruction, fresh and challenging choreography, and high caliber performance experiences.
